Day 3: Dignity of Women

15609354_10211791738169180_461162692_oWe know that the level of any civilization is the level of its womanhood. We think of the school girls in Nigeria, kidnapped by Terrorists, and a government and world who barely searched for them.  We think of the trafficking of women in every country and the “blind eyes” of governments to enforce laws forbidding such movements and “sales”.

Women have fought for “equal pay for equal work” in every advanced culture while encouraging the same for women everywhere.  Women have been given “equal opportunity” for military service, but not for leadership roles in most businesses, governments, and some churches.

We pray that there will be a growing witness in all countries in the belief that all persons are made “in the image and likeness of God”.

May Mary, the Mother of God, and our Mother, continue to be our Guide and Model.  St. Francis in his first Exhortation to the Brothers and Sisters of Penance, wrote: “We are mothers when we carry Him in our heart and body through a divine love and a pure and sincere conscience and give birth to Him through a holy activity which must shine as an example before others.”  Oh, what dignity is this!

Sr. Mary Petrosky, FMM is a member of Holy Name Parish, NY, NY, and an experienced spiritual director who holds a MSW from St. Louis University and an MA in Systematic Theology from Jesuit School of Theology in Berkely, CA. She has had many years of experience in the fields of social work and counseling and more recently in spiritual direction.

Most High, glorious God,
enlighten the darkness of my heart
and give me true faith,
certain hope and perfect charity,
sense and knowledge, Lord,
that I may carry out
Your holy and true command. Amen

Lord, we pray for the power to be gentle;
the strength to be forgiving;
the patience to be understanding;
and the endurance to accept the consequences
of holding to what we believe to be right.
May we put our trust in the power of good
to overcome evil and the power of love to overcome hatred.
We pray for the vision to see
and the faith to believe in a world emancipated from violence,
a new world where fear shall no longer lead human beings to commit injustice,
nor selfishness make them bring suffering to others.
Help us to devote our whole life and thought and energy
to the task of making peace,
praying always for the inspiration and the power
to fulfill the destiny for which we and your entire creation were created. Amen

Hail Mary …

Our Father …

Glory be …
